4. Ethnogenesis
Ethnogenesis is a theory of the rise and fall of civilizations. (Are we currently rising, or are we falling? That is the urgent question.) All of this material comes from Lev Nikolayevich Gumilev, and it was all written in Russian. These are the only English translations that I know of.
Why is all of his voluminous works on history and theory suppressed in the west? (Not translated.) Hell if I know? He was a very complex character with a very difficult life in the Soviet Union. For a scientist, he has a very lively and interesting writing style, really fun to read. I got hooked on him, and thus much of this site publishes his works. I have a couple more including his 2 major works, but I delayed them because of length, and the amount of work it took to prepare them. (Coming next year.)
Ethnogenesis is not a “gospel” to believe in. But it is certainly worth considering, and comparing to what we now see world-wide. He died in 1992, so have things changed so much? Some other books were compiled and published posthumously. Really worth your while.
2. Perspectives: Humanity strives for “UNDERSTANDING” to comfortably navigate the world, and our life.
ISN’T UNDERSRTANDING, (using our verbal model) THE MAJOR DRIVE IN LIFE? At least it is always going on in the background.
INDEX for Ethnogenesis and the Biosphere, Gumlilev
I will put the chapters on top, after this short note, which I may expand as I upload. I will divide the reference notes so that each upload has its relevant notes. Many notes are authors and books, usually from Russia. Some notes further expand a particular point.
DICTIONARY: Ethnogenesis and the Biosphere, Gumilev
In 1976 the author of this book wrote: "Unfortunately, we cannot immediately offer precise definitions, which, generally speaking, greatly facilitate research, but we at least have the opportunity to make primary generalizations. And this was quite natural: to give a definition is to reduce the phenomenon to simpler and more obvious forms, reflecting th…
18. Ethnogenesis and the Biosphere, Gumilev
[This section has some very interesting historical examples, the development of capitalism, and a lot about the decline of Rome. I’ll probably have two more uploads to complete this text. There are also 10 pages of an explanatory dictionary of concepts, which I should have uploaded long ago.]
19. Ethnogenesis and the Biosphere, Gumilev
[This section has a great deal of Gumilev’s philosophy. Very interesting for understanding the man, and for understanding ourselves. There will be one more upload to complete this book.] SURRENDERING TO TEMPTATION AND SELF-DECEPTIONThanks for reading Librarian’s Substack! 20. Ethnogenesis and the Biosphere, Gumilev
This is our last and 20th chapter of Lev Nikolayevich Gumilev's theoretical work, "Ethnogenesis and the Biosphere". Our first post was on Jan 25th, so we have been at it for 3 months. I thank those who have read along with the posts, but we also have many other works, and I don't suppose people are reading just where I am posting. We did have a regul…
A fascinating re-post about pre-historical mankind
Erik Hoel, Sep 6, 2022, Here is his link. It takes the form of a book review of The Dawn of Everything. It’s a co-authored book by David Graeber and David Wengrow, whom Hoel calls “The Davids”. Much of their evidence is distilled from pre-historical findings in North America, and from accounts of Jesuit French Canadians and the local Wendat Iroquois tri…
This above considers both history and the foundations of civilization.
INDEX Page, Yevtushenko book on Ethnogenesis, in 11 chapters
This is a book by Evgney Albertovich Yevtushenko 2017 from Krasnoyarsk, RU, updated in July 2020. This is what I wish to start with as my first publication. In this format is is 127,000 words in English. (Just start it, and see if it catches you.) Yevtushenko spent years reading all of Gumilyov's many works, and distilled them into this book. It i…
Index Page - for Full End & Beginning in 12 chapters, now uploaded
Planet Earth is ONE, with singular processes that can be identified within, and upon its surface. Yet the biosphere is divided into climatic regions, so the species are many and diverse. Thus the anthroposphere (mankind's works) also have different characteristics, coming out of their region of development.
"The end and the beginning again", condensed
The end and the beginning again / L. N. Gumilev - (Exclusive: The Russian classics) 12,800 word free fragment translated from the Russian by me. This is a fantastic essay on the philosophy of man’s coalescence into groups, of which it’s the condition every human being.
From Rus to Russia, condensed
This is another condensed version which can be likened to the Yevtushenko book below. This is because the first half explains theory of ethnogenesis and the second part talks about Russian origins, including wide ranging causality as a background. It is just a taste of Ancient Rus, because it is so much shortened. But reading these 27 pages could be …
